After eight months of playing The Virgin Mary, I had to say good-bye to The Mysteries after a sold-out run at The Flea Theater. Based on The York Mystery Cycle, The Mysteries featured 50 stories from The Bible, from Creation to The Last Judgement, written by of 48 of NYC's hottest playwrights including David Henry Hwang, Craig Lucas, Jose Rivera, Jenny Schwartz, Qui Nguyen... you get the idea!
It was a labor of love and an incredible ride. Click the links to learn more about the show!
Buck offers one of the most far-ranging and thoughtful turns of the production: She's a bewildered virgin mother in the Annunciation, but is a politically savvy, ferociously protective guardian in Slaughter of the Innocents, which recounts her justification of protecting her baby when Herod orders thousands of other children murdered. Much later, in The Death of Mary, Buck appears as an octogenarian Mary in a nursing home, fighting against Gabriel's orders that she come to heaven. - Stage and Cinema
